To describe today (read: yesterday) as serendipitous would be an understatement in the extreme. Let me explain.
This morning: We had no Bitchan, we were having scheduling problems with Decimate, and I had no place to live in San Francisco. Needless to say, I didn't sleep very well.
But, I woke up surprisingly rested. It was either because I was once again sleeping next to my wife, or that the window was open and the fan was blowing cool fresh ocean air into our bedroom. I'm not sure which accounts for which. But, seeing my wife again was awesome.
Anyway, back to the story. I have a friend, who, several times in the past, has offered to let me and Chris Panzera (the actor playing Will) stay at his house for the shoot. Keep in mind, we're two guys. I've got a big computer with 2 screens. We're gonna be holding rather odd hours. And, my friend is married, with 1 or 2 children (I'll know how many children soon enough), and a dog. So, having us stay there is no small favor. Amazingly, my friend's wife agreed with the caviate, "We'll see how it goes."
That took care of my living-in-my-car-for-a-month fear.
Then, I had a phone call with the lead actor, talking about how many hours before sunrise I was going to pick him up on Tuesday. I mentioned the Bitchan problem and that all the other actors hadn't worked out. He told me to give First Choice another call. I didn't have her number, but I assured him I could track it down easily enough. I did. I called Paulina Laurant and she accepted. So, Bitchan, the actor with the 2nd most screentime, is taken care of.
One of the things we did during casting is favor actors who live in San Francisco. We're filming exclusively in San Francisco and an actor living there makes logistics and expenses much more managable. That said, one of our first choices for Decimate was from Los Angeles. He is now onboard and is amazing!
